Director, Government Relations Waterways Council, Inc. Waterways Council, Inc., the national advocacy organization of inland waterways stakeholders, is seeking a Director of Government Relations. The principle mission of Waterways Council is to advocate for a modern, efficient and reliable inland waterways transportation system. The ideal candidate would possess expertise in Congressional processes and procedures with an emphasis on infrastructure issues. Experience with authorization or appropriations committees or service on the personal staff of a Member of the House of Representatives or the United States Senate is an essential qualification. The Director, Government Relations is the organization’s manager for capital investment and operations & maintenance of the inland waterways transportation system. This individual functions as the WCI’s liaison to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) and to the Congressional Committees with jurisdiction over the Civil Works mission of the USACE. WCI employs a mix of full-time staff and expert consultants to achieve its mission. In accomplishing its mission, WCI interacts with Federal Executive Branch agencies, including the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the Office of Management and Budget, and the United States Coast Guard. We also advocate before Congress, state legislatures, as well as cities and towns along the Nation’s inland waterways. The successful candidate will be able to work forthrightly with competing interests in complex situations. The individual will be able to recommend and implement strategies for achieving the organization’s goals and objectives. The individual should be familiar with grassroots advocacy technology, media relations and direct lobbying, and other advocacy measures.
