Field Department
The Field Department led by the National Field Director is the organizing arm of USSA/F. It is currently comprised of the national field director and 2 national field associates, also working very closely with the trainings director. The department works to implement USSA/Fs programs and campaigns in USSA member campuses, while helping to expand USSAs base. The purpose of the department is to build power for students through running campaigns on issues that impact students’ lives while developing student leaders and building strong student organizations at the local, state, and national level. The National Field Director will be charged with implementing strategy around USSA’s current initiatives along with preparing and finalizing our plan for the 2012 Electoral Action Project through which the organization will register, educate, and mobilize student voters across the country. The National Field Director works with student leaders across the country in a variety of roles but always with the end goal of building the student movement and making an impact in their everyday lives.
Responsibilities
Develop USSA campaign plans and organizing materials for national campaigns which include, but are not limited to, toolkits and manuals, etc.
· Plan and implement USSAF’s 2012 Electoral Action Project, a national campaign to register, educate and mobilize student voters
Supervise the overall implementation of USSA organizing programs in the field
Work with the SLAP (Student Labor Action Project) on USSA national campaigns.
Develop a comprehensive evaluation system of USSA national action agenda campaigns.
Develop USSA organizing resources for State & System Student Associations and campus members.
Develop campaign and recruitment tracking systems (both issue and electoral campaigns)
Manage communications and media outreach which include but are not limited to email action alerts, social media, etc.
Train students with the help of the Regional Field Associates in grassroots organizing and electoral organizing principles and skills.
Work with the Trainings Director to adjust and create new trainings for leadership development purposes.
Collaborate in planning, recruiting for, and staffing of two annual USSA conferences and other USSA sponsored trainings.
Promote the department, USSA, and USSAF at conferences, coalition meetings, mailings, and through day-to-day contact with students and other non-profits.
Preferred Experience
Understanding of Direct Action Organizing.
Grassroots campaign experience through campus or community campaigns.
Experience planning and running an Electoral Campaign on campus or in community.
Training experience, especially peer-to-peer training.
Experience managing and training staff and or volunteers
Student, student government, state wide system associations and/or community organizing experience.
Experience organizing in/with student of color communities.
Electoral Organizing experience.
Experience in Coalition development.
Participation in GROW, EAT or Midwest Academy training a plus.

The Fair Elections Legal Network (FELN) is a national, nonpartisan advocacy organization based in Washington, D.C. Our overall mission is to remove barriers to registration and voting for traditionally underrepresented constituencies and improve election administration through administrative, legal, and legislative reform. FELN is seeking a Student Vote Campaign Coordinator to be based out of our office in Washington, D.C.
This is a unique opportunity for an experienced self-starter with strong organizing experience. During fall 2011, the Student Vote Coordinator will spend a significant portion of his/her time conducting outreach and delivering materials and trainings in Ohio, in preparation for the November 2011 elections. Long-term, the Coordinator will oversee FELN’s new Student Vote Campaign, which aims to reduce barriers to voting by institutionalizing student-friendly registration and voting practices in college communities in 7-10 target states.

Grassroots Congressional Visit Coordinator for Rail Trade Association (Capitol Hill, Washington DC)

The position available is the Membership Grassroots Coordinator for the National Railroad Construction and Maintenance Association (NRC).

The NRC is a trade association of rail construction and maintenance contractors and suppliers. See www.nrcma.org for more details.

Tasks:
‐ Coordinate visits by Congressmen/Senators/Governors/etc to NRC member facilities and work sites, including working with host company, Congressional staff contacts, and local media
‐ Write stories highlighting NRC members for rail industry trade magazines and also the bi-weekly NRC bulletin, especially stories tied into Congressional visits noted above
‐ Coordinate expanded awards for NRC members (Project of the Year, Lifetime Achievement Award, etc)
‐ Use resulting positive publicity to demonstrate importance of rail construction and maintenance industry to local and national economy and to encourage additional companies to join the NRC (strengthening NRC lobbying voice, creating more dues and conference revenue to support position, etc)

The primary responsibility of this new position will be organizing and attending events in the field as described above. In addition and as available, the staff person would also assist existing NRC staff in performance of existing duties as the NRC continues to grow, including:
‐ Management and organization of annual Conference (conference promotion, registration, trade show, on‐site staffing, etc)
‐ Implementation of the government affairs agenda (development of industry information, coordinating CapWiz grassroots communication, participating in government‐industry events, etc)
‐ Management and execution of day‐to‐day business affairs of the association (membership databases, website, dues, Committees, marketing and membership development, etc)
‐ Coordination and management of NRC safety activities (Railroad Safety Advisory Committee participation, developing and distributing safety materials, staffing of NRC Safety Committee, etc)

The NRC is managed through a rail-focused government affairs and lobbying firm, representing freight railroads and passenger rail transit agencies. The employee would technically be an employee of this firm, and would also eventually have the opportunity to work on other client issues.

Bachelor's degree required. Experience should include Capitol Hill work on transportation issues, campaign or field event organizing experience, or experience with a transportation-related trade association.

Initial annual salary range of $40,000 to $50,000 based on experience, in addition to health care benefits, paid vacation, sick leave, commuter benefits, and 401(k) benefits. 45-50 hours per week expected, occasionally more. Frequent travel required (at least 2-3 days per month out of town). Office located on Capitol Hill, walking distance from Union Station. The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, Regulation and Enforcement (BOEMRE) is seeking a senior executive position for the Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement (BSEE), one of two new bureaus that will replace the former Minerals Management Service (MMS).

The position is Deputy Director, BSEE, Headquarters, who will, in conjunction with the BSEE Director, share responsibility for and participate in the coordination and direction of the programmatic and administrative functions of BSEE to include the implementation, application and support of the Director’s policies in the daily operations of BSEE activities.

BSEE will be responsible for regulatory, safety, environmental and conservation compliance for the development of the nation’s offshore oil and gas and renewable energy resources. The functions of BSEE will include regulation, enforcement, permitting, inspections, safety management, environmental compliance and enforcement, and oil spill response.
